The moment man associates (sambandha) with the physical (sthoola) body, which is combination (sanyoga) of ovum (raja) and semen (virya), - howsoever great soul (aatmaa) he may be without exception (apavaada), he forgets his real (vaastavika), pure (vishuddha) and immutable (nirvikaara) form (svaroopa). In whatever country (desha), race (jaati), family (kula), he takes birth, he nourishes (poshana) the ego (sanskara) according to his country, race, family and according to his belief, he becomes happy and unhappy. Therefore, the man from the very birth is considered in lower category (i.e.shudra). Really speaking, till the man does not put away the desire (abhilaashaa) for insignificant (tuchchha) individual happiness (vayaktika sukha) and does not give the chief importance to the good (hita) of the society or of the country, he remains in the lower category (shudra). When such lower cadre (shudra) or little men (laghu maanava) (at any age), experience sorrow (glaanee) due to past births culture (sanskaara) and present family set up culture (kula janya sanskaara sahavaasa), they merge their individual good (hita) into society good (samaaja hita), and hope (aakanshaa) to live as an extraordinary (vishishta) men.

Only those, who are anxious-to-be-human (maanavata abhilaashee) are adopted in second-born (dvija) category (shrenee) by initiating them into upanayan sanskaara in vedic discipline (veda vihita) and in a scientific way. He is called second-born because before entering into dvija category, he was engrossed in his individual happiness only, he was of the fourth category i.e. shudra. Now he is no more shudra, he is dead, i.e. he has sacrificed his individual happiness, and has begun to live for the society (samaaja vaadee). His life is for the good of society (samaaja hita). On this account, he inevitably comes into the conflict (sangarsha) with individualism (vyaktivaadee) and bears predicament (aapatti). Thus really speaking, he is called second-born (dvija). The society good (samaaja hita) is itself the individual good (sva hita). It is prime (prathama) and supreme vow (mahaana vrata). This very vow is called upanayan sanskaara.
